Family Law
Family law is the area of law that pertains to divorce, maintenance (also called alimony & spousal support), paternity, child custody and child support. Family law also incorporates adoptions, guardianship, domestic violence, and grandparents’ rights. Family law encompasses all areas of law pertaining to family relationships, meaning one does not need to be married for family law to apply. For example, any custodial parent is entitled to child support and either party can ask the Court to make a stipulation to be put in place which outlines all areas regarding child custody (which parent has residential custody & legal custody, parenting schedule, holiday/summer schedule, pick up/drop off times & places, etc). Dealing with any family law matter can be challenging and very difficult for all parties involved.
